GistTexter provides single and multi-document summarization for search results, document collections, and more.

Introduction

Automatic summarization offers another way of tackling the current information overload experienced by users and enterprises online. Language Computer's GistTexter reduces the time it takes a user to synthesize information from a collection of documents by producing short, targeted summaries that can be read and interpreted quickly.

How it Works

LCC's GistTexter leverages state-of-the-art systems in order to construct knowledge-rich models of the textual information that should - and should not - be included in a multi-document summary. When used in conjunction with output from LCC's CiceroCustom information extraction and Ferret automatic question-answering systems, textual inference components can be used to determine whether information retrieved from a corpus is compatible or contradictory with information stored in a knowledge repository or database.

GistTexter provides answers to complex questions by combining results from its topic representations and sentence ranking modules with question processing techniques first developed for LCC's Ferret question answering system. In order to identify the information need of complex questions, GistTexter submits questions to an automatic semantic question decomposition module, which seeks to identify the set of simpler questions that can be inferred from the complex question.
